The largely unknown, deliberate Israeli attack on the US Navy
By Michael Hoffman
On June 8, 1967 Israeli war planes, in an unprovoked attack, struck the USS Liberty, a US Navy intelligence ship, which was clearly marked and flying the US flag. For hours the Israelis bombed and strafed the ship, killing 34 American sailors and wounding 174.
President Lyndon Johnson, his administration and the major media managed to cover-up Israeli responsibility for this act of war. To this day the public does not know the truth and the mainstream media will not report it. The slaughter is seldom memorialized.
For facts and documents on the massacre the USS Liberty Veterans Association has created a website. Please visit it today:
This memorial is located in public space at the harbor at Rochester, New York (on the west side of the Genesee River, across from the marina).
Even though the perpetrator of the massacre of 34 American sailors (the Israeli government) is not mentioned on the monument, US Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) declined to attend the dedication ceremony for it. His refusal is part of the pattern of disgraceful neglect, willful amnesia and falsification which has long surrounded this largely hidden chapter of America’s military history and the saga of its unsung heroes.
