Why the outrage? Usury is biblically based, commanded by Jehovah, the god of the Jews.
ReplyDelete"To a foreigner you may lend upon interest..." --Deuteronomy 23:20
The Israelites were forbidden numerous times in the Bible from charging usury to each other. As a weapon of warfare against hostile aliens (Hebrew: “nokri”), usury was permitted.
ReplyDeleteUnder the New Testament all men are our brethren and therefore no usury of any kind can be charged, not even to enemies (Luke 6:34-35).
This issue is explicated at considerable length in “Usury in Christendom: The Mortal Sin that Was and Now is Not."
