Republican Party is told to follow the Talmud

Today the celebrated libertarian Lew Rockwell published a column advocating Talmudic ethics as a corrective for GOP corruption. No, this is not a joke. You read those words correctly. 

The essay, “The Babylonian Talmud vs. the Colorado GOP,” lectures gentile Republicans on the corrective they need to straighten their party out: the ethical integrity of Rabbi Moses Maimonides and the wisdom of the Talmud of Babylon! 

Here’s an excerpt:

“If Colorado’s GOP establishment had learned from the Talmud — and it would not have been hard, the Talmud has been around for thousands of years and is freely available online in multiple languages — they would have picked 33 delegates for Cruz and one to someone else. The fact that all of them were for Cruz is a clear indication understood from ancient times that something smells.” (End quote; the whole article is below).

Normally I would undertake a lengthy analysis to demonstrate the fallacies in paying homage to a rule book for racketeers.

But the reality is that lately we’ve been laboring under an awareness of the attitude of some —  perhaps even many of you — who are online. I call it the Something-for-Nothing-Internet mentality. A lot of people are online to get as much as they can for nothing, with no exchange of energy. They take and independent journalists give. 

Unfortunately, in America, when you give something away it is often not highly valued. Increasingly, newspapers and other print publications are erecting pay-walls, and subscriber-only content, and this is an ongoing temptation with regard to this blog and our "Hoffman Wire” e-mailed column. Our printed newsletter, Revisionist History, is by paid subscription and has thrived under that arrangement for 83 issues.

We publish the Hoffman Wire and our On the Contrary blog online free of charge mainly to attempt to reach and inform a worldwide audience of leaders and achievers beyond our paid subscriber base, and beyond those who buy our books and recordings.

Altruism is an important motivator for our work, in thanksgiving to God for tasking us with this Truth Mission. “The more people we can reach the better” has been our attitude, even if the return on our investment of time and energy has not always been tangible.

But what happens when our Internet activism becomes a one-way street? When it becomes diversion and entertainment for jaded persons, rather than for their edification and motivation? Then it’s a case of squandering resources in a non-reciprocating, one-way endeavor.

I will venture to say that it is the apathy and pessimism of some of you that has led the respected Lew Rockwell website to publish such demonstrably false bunkum as the column in praise of the Talmud for Republicans. 

If our work were better known, Rockwell might have had second thoughts, or an informed storm of protest and correction would at least be directed at him. Perhaps there would even be an invitation for us to pen a rebuttal which would be published at LewRockwell.com. Something like that could bear real fruit in helping to educate people who are passionately engaged with the serious issues that impact our nation, as are many of Mr. Rockwell’s readers.

Instead, the influence of the Talmud is growing in public, even as in private and semi-private utterances, for example by Gov. Kasich in New York at the rabbinic bookstore, there is considerable contempt for the Talmudic gestalt — and this defiance ought to be cultivated. 

But how do we go from private mumbling and bookstore defiance, to public challenges and changes in policy —  and from that initial burst to building a sustained, national Christian movement sounding the alarm about the influence of Talmudic Judaism over not just our media, academia and Congress, but also in our court system, the Department of Defense and the Intelligence community? 

From his base in Montana, Rev. Dr. Chuck Baldwin is proceeding along those lines on the national scene, becoming ever more bold in his ministry. But we need more. We need the active engagement of everyone who “knows the score.” If you claim to be a Christian and yet you’re mired in pessimism and survivalism to the neglect of actively contending for the good and the right, you are committing what the Early Church Fathers termed a “sin against Hope.” One of the theological virtues, born of the Holy Spirit, is hope. Without it we can’t fight battles, much less win them.

At present I’m working day and night on my overdue book, “The Occult Renaissance Church of Rome.” This morning I could have, as I have done many times in the past, taken a couple of hours away from that work, to expose this pedagogic Talmudic drivel from Lew Rockwell’s website, and point his readers in the direction of light and truth, for Republicans and every American.

I’m not sure however, that such an effort would be approved by God if it was served up on the altar of the Something-for-Nothing-Internet, for people to consume merely for their own amusement. 

If you read the original New Testament Greek you will see that Jesus never said that the meek shall inherit the earth. He said the gentle-hearted would inherit it. The meek, the ones who let themselves be doormats, are not of God. They are masochists begging the indifferent to pay them attention. That’s not me, folks, and that’s not the Jesus of Matthew 7:6, either.

Here below is the Lew Rockwell column spreading Talmudism among American Conservatives. It is a tissue of absurdities that can be refuted to devastating effect by any true scholar conversant with the Gemara and the Mishneh Torah. Perhaps one of the writers you do support and publicize will answer it. (If he or she does so, I would appreciate receiving a copy of their confutation).  Will anyone with the chapter-and-verse knowledge and ability actually step forth to do so, or will the article remain unanswered? In Anglo-Saxon law silence connotes assent.

As for me, I’m returning to writing my book today. If I thought my Creator wanted otherwise, then I hope I would have the grace and vision to submit in conformity to His will. But it seems to me that He is saying that His laborers are worthy of their hire. Do you agree?

Those who do not should look elsewhere for a beast of burden to ride while giving nothing in return. 

A Something-for-Nothing Internet readership fits the Matthew 7:6 category too well for us to cooperate with a process Our Lord warns against.

The Babylonian Talmud vs. the Colorado GOP

What does it take to make the decision by a governing body just?  Shouldn’t it be just that, “just”?

Then why was the 12th-century Jewish legal scholar Maimonides concerned about “the need for the law to guard itself in public perceptions, to preserve its majesty and retain the people’s respect”? [Moses Maimonides, The Commandments, Neg. Comm. 290, at 269-271 (Charles B. Chavel trans., 1967)].

In other words, should the decision be just or appear to people to be just? On the surface, this is a stupid question: the decision is either just or not, whether it appears just or not; and of course it’s much more important that it is just than that it merely appears to be just. And we are not talking philosophical hair-splitting like rationalism vs. empiricism here. In simple terms, would you prefer your food to be good or rather to appear to be good? Ridiculous, right?

Yet Maimonides rules that in certain circumstances, appearances trump: “If the Beth Din arrived at a unanimous verdict of guilty, the person was let go – the idea being that if no judge could find anything exculpatory about the accused, there was something wrong with the court.” [Maimonidies, Mishneh Torah, Sanhedrin, Chapter 9. Also,  Babylonian Talmud, Tractate Sanhedrin, page 17a.]

Think about that. All the judges could be completely convinced that the defendant is a murderer, yet he might walk away because of this law. Suppose they are all judges of honor and integrity, and they are all certain beyond any doubt that the guy is a murderer. The guy committed the murder in broad daylight and all the judges were direct witnesses, and he doesn’t deny it, he is even bragging about it. There is genetic evidence, conspiracy blueprints, eyewitnesses, video recording, satellite imagery, everything. And suppose further that none of the judges wants to lie, and they all say that the guy is guilty, which he is. In that case, he walks. The murderer walks!

The verdict of guilty is clearly just. But the Talmud raises a red flag. The Babylonian Talmud, an ancient document of Jewish law, says that the very fact that it is unanimous is suspicious. For the Talmud, the decision doesn’t appear to be just.

So how could it be that the appearance of justice trumps justice? How could this make any sense?

It doesn’t. What is being hinted at is Deuteronomy 16:20, in Parsha Shoftim, often read around the end of summer: “Justice, justice you shall pursue.” Why does the Torah repeat the word justice? Because not only must we pursue justice, but we must pursue it in just means. Not only must we be just, we must also appear just.

It is not that the appearance of justice is more important than justice itself. It is that justice itself if it doesn’t also look like justice, isn’t justice at all. Sentencing a truly guilty man in a way that does not appear just is not justice.

As easy as it is to disagree on the merits of a particular case and decide whether something was just or not, it is infinitely easier to disagree about whether it appears just. So how does the Talmud deal with this issue? How can people see that a particular decision doesn’t appear to be just? What raises the red flag?

More generally, how can citizens see when their rulers are perpetrating fraud? Is it possible to have some kind of meta-protection? It would have to be based not on the merits of a specific act or a decision of a government or a ruling class, but on the way in which the decision was made, the manner it was decided, the appearance of justice.

Some meta-rules are obvious. For example: “Sunlight is the best disinfectant.” There’s more credence to a decision that is made in the open then if it is done behind closed doors. Partly for this reason, the Talmud recorded dissenting, minority, and dismissed opinions right alongside its accepted laws. People tend to accept even a bad decision when all of them were given a chance to participate or vote freely on it, or if they at least see that there was genuine dissent representing their views.

But some meta-rules could be more subtle.

The Talmud gives one such example: if the decision is unanimous, that’s a red flag.

Back to our daylight murderer: why? Because the Talmud essentially argues, it means the judges must not have spent enough time. And that is an injustice too.

It is easy to rush into a decision. On a personal, financial, or business level, if a decision appears to have absolutely no risk, no downside, then this Talmudic principle should raise a red flag in your head. You probably haven’t spent enough time thinking about it.

It is also easy to conspire to commit unanimous fraud. In a group setting, all you have to do is whisper a simple message: “vote no, pass it on.” But it is much more difficult to coordinate a more convincing, realistic outcome: “sixty percent of you vote no, the rest vote yes to make it look real.” Which sixty percent? Do I toss a coin? What if we all toss coins and randomly and accidentally vote yes? A unanimous vote is much easier to conspire towards. 

A unanimous vote is a signal, a Talmudic red flag, that something is rotten.

And something now appears to be rotten in the state of Colorado.

In the Republican primaries, voters in the Republican party think they are choosing who will represent them in the general election for President of the United States. But not in Colorado. In Colorado, they were, first of all, not even allowed to vote. This violated the common-sense sunshine meta-protection rule: they didn’t even let the residents of Colorado vote for who would represent their party in the election.

But then they didn’t even have the fortitude to make the results look reasonable. They brashly assigned all 34 delegates to Ted Cruz, every single one. That raises the unanimity red flag of the Talmud. 

Something is rotten.

Was it too hard to coordinate among the delegates to find a few who would pretend to support someone other than Mr. Cruz in order to make the results seem more reasonable? Or did they not even bother hiding their fraud? It may be a combination of both. As the Wall Street Journal reported, “Of the 34 delegates claimed by Mr. Cruz, 30 were formally bound to him, which means they are obliged to vote for him on the first ballot at the national convention. Four others were officially unbound but have said they were supporting Mr. Cruz.” [http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2016/04/08/ted-cruz-sweeps-up-delegates-in-colorado/] Sounds like coordination was likely not involved.

There was this tweet from the Colorado GOP immediately after the “selection” of the delegates: “We did it. #NeverTrump.”

The party deleted the tweet three minutes after it was posted and lied that the account was hacked [http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2016/04/colorado-gop-lied-nevertrump-tweet-account-not-hacked-posted-trump-hating-insider/]. No conspiracy is complete without a cover-up.

The party officials who made this decision and perpetrated this fraud may think they are doing this for all the right reasons. But then they must not have read the Bible closely enough. Because even when you are pursuing what you think is justice, you must also pursue it by just means.

Unanimous decisions are bad. They mean something in the process has broken down. There has not been enough thinking, enough dissent, enough justice.

In the Soviet Union, all of the Politburo’s decisions were always unanimous.

In Germany, the Reichstag convened for the last time 74 years ago this month, on April 26, 1942, to consider a decree proclaiming Hitler “Supreme Judge of the German People.” This decree would make Hitler the only and final decision-maker, with the power of life and death over every German citizen. And now in the Colorado GOP.

Remember the Talmud and beware unanimity. It often masks evil.

Kasich confronts ignorant rabbis and Talmud students

This surprising scene is refreshing to watch, after observing many politicians cringing and toadying in the presence of the self-Chosenites. Kasich has the intelligence and knowledge to get the job done, and obviously has little respect for the enormous, artificially inflated prestige of the rabbinic world.  But does he have the courage to maintain it and follow-through?  That’s the question. 

The video of his confrontation is just three-and-half-minutes in duration. Take the time to watch this somewhat amazing scene. It opens immediately after an Orthodox Judaic man told Kasich that God made a covenant with Moses. You will see Kasich’s ridicule of this nonsensical statement in the opening scene. Then he moves on to the Biblical Joseph, who prefigured Christ. About Joseph the assembled Talmud students appear to know little or nothing. Finally, Kasich directs their attention to the Biblical Joshua, who he praises.  Jesus bore the same Hebrew name as Joshua: Yashua. We see the hints the Governor is dropping.

In the midst of unfaithfulness, Joseph shined like a bright light. He was Jacob-Israel’s first-born by Rachel. His father, Jacob-Israel, shows him particular favor. Joseph’s brothers resent him because he is faithful and they are not. Like many Jews, they refuse to see that the cause of their problems is their own unfaithfulness. They blame Joseph for their sin. Like Jesus, they resent Joseph because God’s hand of blessing is on him. Gov. Kasich considers these facts obvious to any student of the Bible. 

Memo to Kasich and millions of Americans: despite propaganda to the contrary, Orthodox Judaics and their rabbis are not primarily students of the Bible. They are students of the Talmud; whatever they think they know of the Bible is filtered through the distorting prism of the traditions of men; i.e. the Torah sheBeal peh, i.e the Talmud of Babylon. 

In this one case, Governor Kasich was not deferential or accommodating toward rabbinic conceit. This candid exchange captures his impatience with the ignorance he witnessed. How long he will continue with this type of outspoken defiance is anyone’s guess. It is certainly a break with his past positions and actions. Is he at last beginning to behave as a true American leader?

A Forgotten Holocaust Anniversary

Today is the 68th anniversary of the Israeli massacre of Palestinians at Deir Yassin, near what is now Yad Vashem holocaust museum, which takes no notice of the massacre

You will search in vain today for any significant notice in the U.S. media of the Israeli slaughter of more than 100 Palestinians in the village of Deir Yassin, on April 9, 1948.

Some of us suffer from compassion fatigue and the reaction may very well be, so what else is new?  

We have grown apathetic. The episodic genocide of Palestinians is routine and seldom commemorated in the American media, which commemorates every stubbed toe suffered by Judaic persons under the Nazis; such is the Talmudic double-standard.

But if the massacre of fellow human beings does not at first elicit a noteworthy response, consider this: the site of the destroyed village of Deir Yassin, which the Israelis completely razed in the 1980s, is located a few hundred yards from the world-famous “Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum,” where world leaders are herded for the obligatory weeping and wailing over the sufferings of The Holy People. The suffering of the Palestinian “unholy” people just down the road from Yad Vashem is unworthy of notice. There are few more telling examples of the praxis of the Talmudic mentality.

Lastly, the Israeli terror group which perpetrated the Deir Yassin atrocity, the Irgun, had in its employ a certain Elie Wiesel, the future celebrity “Holocaust” maven and Nobel Prize winner. 

The malignant hypocrisy which leads the Holocaust-besotted Establishment media to ignore Deir Yassin while pounding into our collective cerebral cortex our obligation to “Never Forget” the “holocaust against the Jews,” is nothing less than a moral cancer.

Purim in recent history, 1994-2016

A Chronicle of Calamities and Catastrophes for Gentiles

Introduction

Purim is the rabbinic festival of revenge derived from the Book of Esther and then further embroidered and extended by authoritative Talmudic and Kabbalistic traditions which are observed in Orthodox Judaism as a sacred obligation. An online column is insufficient for anything approaching a full explication of Purim.  A more extensive study will be found on pp. 823-827 of this writer’s Judaism Discovered.

Purim is celebrated as a festival commemorating revenge upon non-Jews. Pious Judaic believers dress in various grotesque, Halloween-type of regalia; much of it reminiscent of the reversals common to the medieval feast of fools, whereby persons of low station masqueraded as aristocrats and aristocrats as peasants; villains as saints and alleged holy people as demons. Consequently, on Purim in New York this writer has witnessed Israeli-Americans dressed as Arab suicide bombers complete with ersatz bomb belts, and rabbis attired as women, gorillas and clowns.

There are deeper meanings attached to Purim than reveling in vengeance against one’s enemies, real or imagined. These are largely outside of our purview here, except to note that Purim entails a perverse obligation for the Judaic male to become intoxicated. He is to become so drunk on Purim that he can’t discern the difference between Mordechai (the Judaic hero of the Book of Esther) and Haman (the Hitler-like villain of the book). In other words, Judaic males are to become nearly blind drunk on Purim. The Talmudic injunction for this behavior is found at BT Megillah 7b. The esoteric reason for this intoxication, which produces a perception of the union of opposites, i.e. of good and evil, rests on the Kabbalistic doctrine (cf. Zohar Bereishis 36 and Chadis 2:137b) which is the occult secret of Purim: that both Haman and Mordechai serve the purposes of Judaism. As the eminent Rabbi Samson Raphael Hirsch explained it, “...anti-Semitism is the tool through which the God of Israel preserves his people.”

Reproduced above is a full-color front page from a devout Orthodox Judaic religious newspaper. It was published on the 12th of Adar 5767 (March 2, 2007). It depicts two Judaic men drunkenly cavorting on Purim: one is holding a liquor bottle and glass of liquor, the other is doing a tipsy somersault; both men are fulfilling their religious obligation. 

Purim in recent history

On Purim 1994: 14th of Adar (February 25), Dr. Baruch Goldstein, an Orthodox Talmudic Israeli from Brooklyn, took a machine gun into the Cave of the Patriarchs in the Palestinian city of Hebron and massacred 40 Palestinians while they prayed (the media have engaged in massacre-denial and reduced the number of those he murdered to 29). He has a shrine in his honor in the Israeli state. The Ninth Degree of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, dedicated to revenge on Masonry’s enemies (by beheading), is inspired by Purim.

On Purim 2001:The late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia aided and abetted, as his numerous activities on behalf of Talmudic training for U.S. lawyers and his own statements testify, the imposition of Talmudic halacha (law) on America. The first documentation in writing which we have of this ominous fact is the letter he dated March 9, 2001, written on Supreme Court stationery, pledging support to a rabbi of the Chabad Lubavitch sect of Christ-haters. Was it a coincidence that Judge Scalia chose to pen his letter to the rabbi on Purim, the 14th of Adar 5761? (For more on this cf. Revisionist History newsletter no. 83).

On Purim 2003: George W. Bush, the Skull and Bones society snake who Scalia helped make President of the United States (cf. Bush v. Gore, 2000), launched the invasion of Iraq during Purim —16th of Adar 5763 —which resulted in the catastrophic decimation of Christianity in that Arab nation and the deaths of tens of thousands of goyim. 

In Purim week 2016: approximately 35 hours before the beginning of Purim on Wednesday, March 23 at sundown, 14th of Adar 5776, more than 30 gentiles were slaughtered at an airport and subway station in Brussels, Belgium, and hundreds more wounded (cf. “Purim in Brussels”).

Perhaps it is a coincidence that the mass murder, the subversion of the US Constitution, the invasion of the nation of Iraq and the terror slaughter in Brussels all occurred on or near Purim; and then again, perhaps not.

Let him who has eyes to see, do so.

Purim in Brussels

The hidden hand that keeps the Israeli state immune from Wahhabist Islamic terror has inflicted Purim-style vengeance on a dying Europe through that very terror

The terror attacks in Brussels on March 22, not far from the headquarters of the pro-immigration European Union (EU), were to be expected, and more are undoubtedly on the way in Belgium, France, Britain and Germany. These attacks were prepared deliberately by the governments of the West to create the conditions whereby formerly freedom-loving people will beg for a police state. This is point number one.

Christianity as taught historically from Biblical doctrine has been replaced in the West by the religion of suicidal, baby-hating white people: multiculturalism and diversity. This mass insanity has infected the minds of tens of millions of our people who, like Angela Merkel in Germany, the Trudeaus of Canada, the Labour Party in Britain and the Democrat party and Trump-hating Republican party-hierarchy in the U.S., keep preaching, contrary to overwhelming reality, that more immigrants from North Africa and the Middle East enrich our nations and support human rights.

Salah Abdeslam, the fugitive terrorist implicated in the slaughter in Paris, France last November, was shielded for months inside Brussels’ Salafist-Muslim community of immigrants. These immigrants had been given refuge in Belgium from Middle East wars and then, by shielding a mass murderer, demonstated their ingratitude by doing all they could to eviscerate the West that had extended that refuge. 

How will Europeans, and to a lesser extent Americans, who do not respect themselves or their ancient Christian heritage, defeat Wahhabi Islam? People whose highest objective in life is money and pleasure will sell their nation and their children’s future cheaply. They average less than one child per couple. They live for money gained by usury, or one of its other tentacular financial arrangements. Abortion has killed far more European and American children than Wahhabist Islam ever will. These white people have a degenerate pope in the Vatican who trumpets Angela Merkel’s feces-for-brains immigration policy. Europe’s faithless mass of consumeroids have lost the will to defend what their ancestors achieved and secured.

This is Holy Week, when Christians meditate on the Gospel account of the crucifixion of Christ. This is also an unholy week because it will see the beginning of Purim, the rabbinic festival of revenge on the gentiles. The son of the late chief rabbi of Rome, Prof. Ariel Toaff, before he was silenced by lynch mob tactics, proved indisputably in his magnificent book Pasque di Sangue (translated and published underground in English as Blood Passover), that Ashkehanzic Judiacs ceremonially tortured and murdered  Christian children in the European Middle Ages.

There is a hidden hand behind the Saudi Arabian/ISIS brand of Sunni Islamic terror. This terrorism has been consistently aided in Syria by the Israeli government. The ISIS terrorists have never attacked the Israeli state. Like the alliance between the rabbis and the Muslims in Spain in the medieval period, Israeli officials, including Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon, state openly that they prefer a victory of ISIS in Syria.

The message of Purim is one of undying hatred for the genetic seed of Europe which defeated the creed of the Talmud and the Kabbalah during the Catholic Middle Ages and in early Lutheran Germany.

While Saudi/Salafist Islam abandons the Palestinians to the non-existent mercy of the Israelis, who only have to deal with a few out-of-their minds’ knife wielders and rock throwers, machine guns sputter and bombs explode throughout Europe with disastrous regularity.

It is said that the most recent attack, in Brussels, may have been retaliation for the capture of the terrorist Abdeslam; that could be true. What is certain however, is that the hidden hand that keeps the Israeli state immune from ISIS-Islamic terror has inflicted Purim-style vengeance on a dying Europe through that very terror.

Little of this will be revealed this week, however. In the scripted “struggle” against terror, the Christians will get the message that they need to unite more than ever with the spiritual heirs of those who crucified their Savior. They forget that it was the first terrorism that nailed Christ to the Cross, despite the effort of the Roman Pontius Pilate to save Him. As it is written in the Babylonian Talmud, because He had friends among the rulers of Palestine, it was not easy to kill Jesus.

These facts are unknown, and mine is a voice crying in the wilderness, unheard and unheeded.

Tridentine Judaism and the New Supreme Court Nominee

When we examine the curriculum vitae of Merrick Garland, Mr. Obama’s nominee to replace the late Justice Antonin Scalia, we find that, as a federal prosecutor, he helped to mastermind the criminal conspiracy that covered up the ultimate perpetrators of the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing. Until Bill Jasper’s investigative reports for the John Birch Society are gathered into a book, the best volume on that conspiracy is The Oklahoma City Bombing and the Politics of Terror, a work banned by the US government and forced out of print, though copies are still available on the used book market. 

Flanked by President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden, Garland told reporters in the Rose Garden, “My grandparents left the Pale of Settlement…in the early 1900’s, fleeing anti-Semitism and hoping to make a better life for their children in America,” 

Mr. Garland was raised in a Talmudic community in Chicago by Judaic parents. His mother, Shirley (Horowitz), worked as director of services at Chicago’s “Council for Jewish Elderly.” His father, Cyril Garland, an advertising executive, is deceased. Garland’s wife, Lynn Rosenman, is Judaic royalty. She is the grand-daughter of the late Russian-American attorney and political king-maker, Samuel I. Rosenman, who served in the White House as Special Counsel to President Franklin D. Roosevelt, after promoting FDR’s early political career in New York. 

Victims of the Hegelian dialectic will lament the loss of their “thesis,” Mr. Scalia, and consider the “antithesis,” Garland, a poor substitute. We doubt that Mr. Scalia would have taken so dim a view of Judge Garland, however.

Justice Scalia was a leader in the movement we call Tridentine Judaism. It is a Hegelian synthesis of some adherents of the Tridentine Latin Mass movement inside the Catholic Church, and adherents of Talmudic Judaism inside the synagogue. In a recent Hoffman Wire we informed readers about this network and Mr. Scalia’s role in promoting Talmudic halacha (law) in the American courts. Our Revisionist History newsletter no. 83 contains an extended study of this ominous phenomenon, accompanied by illustrations of rare documents and photos.

Further evidence of the infernal synthesis has materialized online. In February, two renowned Catholic organizations within the Tridentine movement, the Latin Mass Society of England and Wales and International Una Voce, issued “Position Paper 28” on the Internet, titled: The Good Friday Prayer for the Jews in the Extraordinary Form. It’s online here.

Read the scurrilous section entitled, “The Fathers and the Middle Ages.” It could have been written by an Orthodox rabbi. It goes so far as to allege that the Fathers of the Early Church were somehow in favor of rabbinic Judaism!  

In an effort to ask for an amendment of the document, which libels the saintly Nicholas of Donin, the 13th century Judaic convert to Catholicism who has the distinction of having prosecuted the Talmud at the first trial of the rabbinic book in the history of Christendom, we corresponded with the “Catholic” author of The Good Friday Prayer position paper. He is a tutor at St. Benet’s Hall at Oxford University, yet we might as well have been corresponding with one of Judge Scalia’s beloved Chabad rabbis, so thick was this person’s pilpul. In his e-mail to this writer he favorably compared the Babylonian Talmud to the Summa Theologica of St. Thomas Aquinas.

When we attempted to correct some of the more egregious statements in his position paper, which is being circulated throughout the “traditional” and “conservative” Catholic world, he would not engage with our research and resorted to an appeal to consensus reality, telling us, “The paper relies on the scholarship referred to in the footnotes. This is current and respectable; we don't expect everyone to agree, but we do expect reasonable people to accept that the position the paper takes is itself reasonable.” 

The main corpus of the “scholarship referred to in the footnotes” is based on an absurd apologia for Talmudic Judaism which can be resoundingly refuted if any “traditional Catholics” with the necessary resources were interested in commissioning such a refutation.

Justice Scalia lent his prestige to this type of unnatural union between ghastly rabbinic homonculi and the Catholic Church. It is a movement that is growing by leaps and bounds. But instead of censuring it, Catholics are going after us for “denigrating” the “heroic” Mr. Scalia. 

Does the truth count for anything any more, or have we entered an age of total delusion, even among those who claim to be campaigning for the sacred tradition of the Church?

Martin Luther and the “Age of Gold"

Half a Millennium of Total Depravity (1517-2017): 

 A Critique of Luther’s Impact on the Eve of His “Catholic” Apotheosis

         Our civilization is so sick that even the best efforts to prop up its few tottering remnants manifest the pathetic illness that has step by step brought the entire structure crumbling down. The disease in question is a willful, prideful, irrational, and ignorant obsession with “freedom”. But this is a malady that gained its initial effective entry into Christendom in union with the concept of the natural world as the realm of “total depravity”.

         It is crucially important that we recognize both the ultimate responsibility of this hideous willful liberty for the destruction of our Classical and Christian culture as well as the role played by the idea that “incarnated” it historically in our midst for two reasons. The first is so that we can attempt seriously to rid ourselves of their monstrous influence over our own minds, souls, and bodies. The second is because a massive attempt to masquerade the truth regarding their real character and alliance will be mounted in conjunction with the five hundredth anniversary of Martin Luther’s devastating appearance on the public scene in 2017: and this for the sake of maintaining their nefarious impact upon believers and delivering the Faith its coup de grace as a meaningful social force.

         

Allow me to cite Philip Hughes regarding Luther and his antecedents as a means of driving home the point that I wish to make in this brief piece:

All those anti-intellectualist, anti-institutional forces that had plagued and hindered the medieval Church for centuries, whose chronic maleficent activity had, in fact, been the main cause why—as we are often tempted to say—so little was done effectively to maintain a generally higher standard of Christian life; all the forces that were the chronic distraction of the medieval papacy, were now stabilized, institutionalized in the new reformed Christian Church. Enthronement of the will as the supreme human faculty; hostility to the activity of the intelligence in spiritual matters and in doctrine; the ideal of a Christian perfection that is independent of sacraments and independent of the authoritative teaching of clerics; of sanctity attainable through one’s own self-sufficing spiritual activities; denial of the truth that Christianity, like man, is a social thing;—all the crude, backwoods, obscurantist theories bred of the degrading pride that comes with chosen ignorance, the pride of men ignorant because unable to be wise except through the wisdom of others, now have their fling. Luther’s own special contribution—over and above the key doctrines that set all this mischief loose—is the notion of life as radically evil. (Hughes, A History of the Church, Sheed & Ward, 1949, III, 529).

         Hughes eloquently stresses the central fact that our underlying problem is pre-Lutheran in origin. In other words, 1517 is not the source of our woe---any more, for that matter, than 1962 and the opening of Second Vatican Council was. All of the spiritual, intellectual, political, and social diseases that had hovered for centuries about the Camp of the Saints had gathered together, ready for injection into the lymphatic system of Catholic Christendom as one “mega malady”, already long before that date. All of these ultimately reflected a revulsion over the need for the individual and his entire environment to be corrected, perfected, and transformed under the Kingship of Christ with the aid of Faith, Grace, Reason on the one hand, and social authority, both supernatural and natural, on the other. Anyone in 1516 looking for a simple explanation for why he should reject these aids had available to him an embarrassment of arguments from a myriad of fonts indicating that the only thing that really mattered was the individual and his willful feelings; and that relying upon these alone was somehow the sole pathway to pleasing God.

         Nevertheless, the conflicted mind of the Late Middle Ages clearly needed someone with the outlook and the talented rhetorical venom of a Luther effectively to inject this mega malady into the lymph of Christendom. Christian man was too aware of the reality of sin to leap directly into an adulation of his individual willfulness. Luther’s concept of the “total depravity” of the individual and the world in which he lived after Original Sin gave Everyman the pious entry into the obsession with liberty that was required. After all, it seemed so humble to argue for each believer’s personal need to rely solely on God’s grace to save him; for his need to affirm that “freedom” from “enslavement” to “the despotism” of “the Law” that allowed him to avoid a “hopeless” and ultimately spiritually arrogant attempt to bend his individual, life long, workaday thoughts and actions to fall in line with the commands of Christ.

Still, it proved to be very easy over the course of a couple of generations for this negative definition of “liberty”---a “freedom” from the Law---to be transformed, in the Enlightenment, into the means for a positive new and redemptive order of things. In short, it did not take long for a freedom from restraints upon the lawless, individual willfulness of Luther’s totally depraved mankind to be seen as the providential tool for molding unbridled human thoughts and actions into the building blocks of a new Age of Gold. In other words, the more that a freedom from restraints actually ensured that the truly sinful passions of mankind were all released in order to allow flawed individuals truly to became totally depraved, the more that that depravity was now looked upon as something intrinsically wonderful, good, and even pleasing to God. 

It is precisely because this venomous attempt to build a civilization upon a freedom from efforts to fight Original Sin and its willful effects upon individuals is so tempting that it has infected almost all of us in some way or another. We almost all fall prey to the enticement simply to pick what “liberty” most appeals to our particular passion, declare it pleasing to God, willfully condemn whichever application of the same principle we find personally unacceptable when used by others, and ignore the innately poisonous nature of the entire concept. And, quite frankly, we almost all fall prey to the cynical temptation to mobilize the “total depravity” argument anew when we chuckle over the naïve, utopian vision of opponents who want to use law and authority to help make people virtuous in realms where we want “liberty”. But blithely making common cause with “liberty” in a world that did not have to be totally depraved but is making every effort to become so is riding on the back of a willful monster---with the current self-destructive appeal to religious liberty at the top of the list. It is only the positive liberty to use our Faith, Grace, our Reason, and the help of social authorities, both supernatural and natural, to correct and transform ourselves under the Social Kingship of Christ that can lead to a life worth living in this world and to eternal happiness in the next. 

Sad to say, it is absolutely certain that most of our ecclesiastical leaders, foot soldiers of the Zeitgeist that they are, will turn 2017 into a year long paean to the accomplishments of Luther & Company and “all those anti-intellectualist, anti-institutional forces”; “all the crude, backwoods, obscurantist theories bred of the degrading pride that comes with chosen ignorance, the pride of men ignorant because unable to be wise except through the wisdom of others” that Philip Hughes tells us lay behind them for centuries. It is our duty as Traditionalist Catholics to steel ourselves against the lies that are to come concerning the wonderful value of such hideous, willful principles that now have “had their fling” for five hundred years. It is our duty to hammer home the evil they have caused. Because that five hundred year ignorant, willful, individualist cancer has spread everywhere throughout the lymph of Christendom into every institution and everyone’s mindset, believing Catholics should spend the next two years helping those less aware among us to gird their loins. 2017---like 1517---is going to be a trial for all of us. And it is an awakening to this frightful nightmare that the 24th Annual Summer Symposium of the Roman Forum will seek to assure.

This year's lectures on "Half a Millennium of Total Depravity" will be going into a book to be published by Angelico Press. We very much intend it to serve as a means of fighting the campaign to glorify Luther which will indeed characterize 2017.

Michael Hoffman’s comment: In all of John Rao’s preceding remarks there is no allusion to the Lutheran civilization that produced J.S. Bach and Johann Andreas Eisenmenger (author of the magisterial Entdecktes Judenthum), to name but two of the West’s most outstanding men. Instead, there is a resort to the all too familiar canard, insinuated here, that Luther is synonymous with the coming of a supercharged avarice ("did not take long for a freedom from restraints upon the lawless, individual willfulness of Luther’s totally depraved mankind to be seen as the providential tool for molding unbridled human thoughts and actions into the building blocks of a new Age of Gold”). Such an accusation, to have utility, must ignore the "Age of Gold’s" two notorious agents, both contemporaries of Luther: the hideous Medici Pope Leo X who sanctioned not only the sale of indulgences, but Monte-bank usury which started the gradualist erosion of the Church’s immemorial dogma against profit on loans; and Johann Eck, Luther’s nemesis, who advocated a 5% rate of usury in his role as a theological prostitute for the fabulously wealthy Catholic banking house of Fugger. These facts are elucidated in this writer’s book, Usury in Christendom: The Mortal Sin that Was and Now is Not, which is studiously ignored by Catholics like Dr. Rao. Proceeding from Rao’s tack, the “traditional” Catholic assault on Luther will fail. There are ample grounds for criticizing and questioning Luther, but resorting to the old libel that his life’s work enhanced the "Age of Gold" is not one of them. Martin Luther is one of the most illustrious and principled opponents of profit on loans and the ruinous Money Power domination that compound interest would engender, of anyone in Renaissance Christendom. To suggest otherwise is rank ignorance and discredits whoever would preach these libels to anyone other than the members of their own anti-Lutheran choir.
