It sounded as strange to her as it did to me. I can't even conclude from this that the meeting was requested by Hassan -- so I still know of no hard indication that Hassan knows the significance he's saddled with.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03846279505407818952noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21240636.post-89320351127848869462009-11-10T20:15:50.859-08:002009-11-10T20:15:50.859-08:00I'm glad Hoffman commented on this one.

I'd love to hear if someone pulls that off.

The laughter in the SNL skit, 'canned' or real, struck me as strange. I couldn't grasp what would be funny about it --unless it was just that important to laugh when you've wasted money on an SNL ticket? However, Imogen Heap's original lyrics are somewhat revealing as regards the Fort Hoodwink (and other recent, similar) events:

Where are we?
What the hell is going on?
The dust has only just begun to form
Crop circles in the carpet
Sinking feeling

Spin me round again
And rub my eyes
This can't be happening
When busy streets a mess with people
Would stop to hold their heads heavy

Hide and seek
Trains and sewing machines
All those years
They were here first

Oily marks appear on walls
Where pleasure moments hung before the takeover
The sweeping insensitivity of this still life

Hide and seek
Trains and sewing machines (oh, you won't catch me around here)
Blood and tears (hearts)
They were here first

Mmmm, whatcha say
Mmmm, that you only meant well?
Well, of course you did
Mmmm, whatcha say
Mmmm, that it's all for the best?
Of course it is
Mmmm, whatcha say?
Mmmm, that it's just what we need
You decided this
Whatcha say?
Mmmm, what did she say?

Ransom notes keep falling out your mouth
Mid-sweet talk, newspaper word cut outs
Speak no feeling, no, I don't believe you
You don't care a bit
You don't care a bit

(Hide and seek)
Ransom notes keep falling out your mouth
Mid-sweet talk, newspaper word cut outs

(Hide and seek)
Speak no feeling, no, I don't believe you
You don't care a bit
You don't care a (you don't care a) bit

(Hide and seek)
Oh, no, you don't care a bit
Oh, no, you don't care a bit

(Hide and seek)
Oh, no, you don't care a bit
You don't care a bit
You don't care a bit

The most poignant lines of the lyrics, for me, were: "The sweeping insensitivity of this still life..." and "You don't care a bit." I think it speaks to the willing readiness of SNL's thoroughly desensitized (by decades of "horror" films) audience to laugh at comedic actors shooting one another in cold blood. Most people, when asked why they think this sort of thing is so funny, seem to have been fooled (or have fooled themselves) into thinking such a callous attitude is the most effective way to "cope" with tragedy.

The SNL short called "The Shooting," also known as "Dear Sister," satirizes the final scene of the second-season finale The O.C., and was broadcast during an episode aired April 14, 2007, two days prior to the "V-Tech" shootings.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21240636.post-86351148230802156412009-11-09T14:21:12.742-08:002009-11-09T14:21:12.742-08:00"Whatcha Say" by Jason DeRulo was origin..."Whatcha Say" by Jason DeRulo was originally recorded as "Hide and Seek" by Imogen Heap.
