National Union MK Michael Ben Ari declared Tuesday that next week's visit by Pope Benedict XVI, whom he referred to as a former member of the Nazis' youth movement, would be an insult to the memory of Holocaust victims.
"A state welcome for the pope would be turning our backs on the millions of Jews who were killed in the shadow of the Christian religion of grace and mercy," Ben Ari was quoted as saying by Israeli media. "This pope was a member of the Hitler Youth."
He made the comments at a Knesset session in which he called on lawmakers to rethink the pope's visit.
Ben Ari, a former member of the outlawed Kach movement, further said the Catholic Church is, and has always been, driven by anti-Semitic motivations.
"This pope brought back to the Church priests who deny the Holocaust and has renewed discussion on the accusation that Jews murdered Jesus," he added.
The lawmaker was referring to Benedict XVI's rehabilitation of British Bishop Richard Williamson, who has denied the Holocaust, which sparked outrage across the Jewish world.
The lawmaker went on to say he regretted the Knesset House Committee's prevention of a discussion on the matter, and attacked the rightist Habayit Hayehudi and ultra-Orthodox parties for failing to back such a debate.
Following Ben Ari's remarks, MK Roni Bar-On (Kadima) said the far-rightist was a pyromaniac who wished to set the Middle East ablaze.

Regardless of past errors and judgment, Pope Benedict XVI could become the most beloved pope of all time.
Pope Paul II left good feelings, but not correction for Catholics, Jews or Muslims. Pope Benedict XVI Can Bring Unity With Repentance and Correction The issue is not pro or anti Israel; it is pro or anti Israel's God who gave commandments that are eternal.
The pope can acknowledge that the Roman Catholic Church took away the word of God through Moses; and her daughter churches, (Protestant and other Christian) have continued the error. Israel’s scattering and destructions came for disobeying the written word of God.. The pope could awaken the world to our errors and stir our hearts for correction.
Unity comes with “It is written.” The primary message of the Qur'an is to follow the whole Bible and Jesus said to live by EVERY word of God (Ahmad # 42.14-16, 5.68, 69; Mat 4.4) The pope could restore Exodus 20 and Deuteronomy 5 Ten Commandments as they are written, restore the 7th day Sabbath,. Leviticus 26 reminds all people that their problems come from disobedience.

Actually, Yahweh will destroy all the cesspools of organized religion. A rude awakening is on the horizon.
But not all agree that 'Babylon' is Rome. It's believed by some that Israel is intended and considering that the Babylonian Talmud is the holy book of the Jews, I tend to agree.
If Babylon is Zion, then the Pope will most likely fill the shoes of the false prophet (not the antiChrist) preceding the days of the Fall of Babylon. And that seems to be what is possibly shaping up, his days as a 'Hitler Youth' not withstanding.
